It’s been a very busy past few months for Reaching Out MBA. In March, the organization held its fifth annual Out Women in Business Conference in NYC.
This event brings together LBTQ women and their allies to talk about issues within business industries and its intersection with gender and sexuality. One highlight of the event was the keynote address by Annise Parker, former mayor of Houston and current President and CEO of the Victory Institute and Victory Fund.
In April, Reaching Out held the Club Leadership Summit for 25+ schools and their incoming LGBTQ MBA Club Leaders in Chicago, IL. Over the weekend, club leaders heard from a number of panelists in a number of topics including: LGBTQ legal issues and landmark cases, the HRC’s Corporate Equality Index, establishing allies within the club, and becoming more inclusive. All with the purpose of preparing club leaders to take on leadership positions within their clubs.
In May, Reaching Out will travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil for their Brazil Conference. Expected to bring in over 500 attendees, discussing LGBTQ issues and sharing the experiences of LGBTQ people within different industries of business will be the main focus of the event. Run entirely in Portuguese, this conference is meant to connect, inspire, and educate the student and young professional communities of Brazil. Much like at the ROMBA Conference, there will be a Day in the Life session during which speakers will share a bit about what it is like to work in their various positions and open up about their experiences with attendees. Additionally, there will be a CV Review session, where attendees can bring in copies of their CV to be reviewed and given feedback from professionals.
Over the summer months, Reaching Out will once again travel the US for the Admitted Student treks. These treks are designed for newly admitted students who will be starting their MBA in the Fall who are interested in different industries. Reaching Out Staff will take them to a headquarter city to meet with Fortune 500 companies to talk about job and internship opportunities and what it’s like to work at the company, connecting them with working professionals.
